Improving Health and Safety Culture

Welcome to the forum.
Changing old habits and attitudes is one of the biggest and most important challenges in this space (in my opinion). We have found that rewarding or recognizing those who make a genuine effort or contribution to Health and Safety is a positive way to do this.
Currently we do this through CEO emails, leadership walks and a monthly HS award.
I am keen to hear if anyone has any other ideas for positive ways to improve HS Culture.

We also have reward & recognition, which is normally through our H&S committee and they get a voucher. We also have an annual Legend Awards and one of the category is safety. But is hard to get other drivers do nominate someone, its often managers do it. As so many of them see if as people just doing their jobs. Do you have a lot of drivers doing the nominating or is it mainly managers? If is drivers how have you managed to get them to nominate other drivers?

We have the exact same problem, more often than not it is either the transport supervisors or managers that make the nominations. I have had a couple through our Health and Safety Committee. We have also awarded a couple because we have received some really positive feedback from customers in relation to the safe behavior of drivers on their sites. Its a tricky one.
We are just about to roll out a new HS System which has a feedback module. I am hoping that will get a few more from other staff just due to ease of use/ being able to do it on the go from their phones.
