Manual Handling

Hi Team,

I am looking for advice or recommendations on manual handling training and whether anyone has designed this in house before.

We are looking to give our staff the most practical training we can with items they are likely to encounter in their everyday and have been struggling to find the right fit.

Would love to hear of any successful training sessions everyone has had in this space and also if there is anything that hasn't worked so well.

Hi,

I have recently done a PP presentation and SOP on this happy to share it with you. It was straightforward, and then we went to the warehouse and did a practical assessment using various items I put on a pallet that our team would manually handle. Send me an email and I will email it to you. Lisa.hallie@booths.co.nz

Hi

When I used to be a trainer one of the sessions I used to do was manual handling, we would do the normal 20 mins slides and then do a practical. It never reduced the incidents, the only way to do that is by using assisting devices and better work design.

So before sending time of this, I think you need to think about what the goal of the training is as it may not be effect. See the link from WorkSafe below regarding manual handling training not being an effective control.

I agree Angela, it would pay to check out the way Worksafe are heading around the emphasis on risk assessment of each task before investing time into manual handling training as we know it.

Hi Louise,

I have always found the Child's Play Video to be the most effective visual aid, something that often sticks in the mind. Short and to the point. Follow up by practical application/observations in the workplace. Previews are available on YouTube with full version available at safetyhub.com/au
